Keeping Your Septic System Functioning Properly

Like every other system or appliance in your home, your septic system requires periodic maintenance if you want to get your money’s worth, i.e. long trouble-free life. Your septic system should be checked and pumped out a minimum of once every three or four years. You may not be experiencing any problem now, but a full septic tank may allow unwanted solids and sludge to flow into your drain field.

"The drain field is typically a series of connected, perforated pipes. These pipes allow effluent (liquid) to flow into a bed of stones that drain into the ground. If paper and other solids flow into the drain field, it will become clogged and ineffective. Having that tank pumped out before it fills with solids that overflow into the drain field is significantly less expensive than replacing your drain field."
